dojoweb-732David C. Taylor

2nd Degree Black Belt

David is the Head Instructor for Danzan-ryu Jujitsu Program at Polander Academy and currently holds the rank of Nidan in Danzan-ryu Jujitsu, a Japanese Jujutsu founded in Hawaii by H.S. Okazaki in 1925.  It combines a balance of all the traditional Jujitsu techniques, as well resuscitation (kappo) and healing (Seifukujutsu).

David began training in Jujitsu in 1991 while in the U.S. Air Force in the art of Sanucas Jiu-Jitsu.  He trained for one year then left back to the Washington, DC area.  In approx. 1994, he began training in Danzan-ryu Jujutsu.  ”I found this traditional martial art to be a complete Jujitsu system that encompassed all of the standing, ground, weapons, and healing that I had been looking for.  It is a catalyst system that brought together much of my training in other martial arts.”

Many systems today specifically focus in one area of combat – Judo with throws, BJJ on the ground, Aikido with wrist locks, etc..  Danzan-ryu gives students a well balanced approach to their martial arts training, with a focus toward perfection of technique and self development.  You learn to throw, breakfalls properly, ground fighting, and weapon defense.  The attitude is not to push you into fighting tournaments, but self defense in your daily life.

“As an instructor, I take pride in the success of my students.  I am constantly striving to find a better way to impart knowledge or come up with training drills that improve application in techniques learned for students”.
